RW Williams win honor

Rosewood High School's Javon Williams has been nominated as an Old Spice Red Zone Player of the Year.

The Red Zone Player of the Year Program is a nationally sponsored recognition program that identifies high school football players that embody leadership, performance and desire, and serve as examples to their teammates on and off the field.

Williams is now eligible to be selected as the national Red Zone Player of the Year and be honored in a full-page feature in USA Today.

MOC men, two women players still in national stats

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College's men's basketball team is ranked in three team categories, while women's players Teneal Boone and Latoria Harvey continue to be ranked in individual women's basketball categories in this week's NCAA Division II National Statistics report.

In the men's stats, the Trojans are ranked No. 31 in scoring offense with an average of 83.1 points per game. The Trojans continue to rank among the top 20 free throw shooting teams in the nation, placing 19th with a 75.1 shooting percentage. Mount Olive's 10-2 record (through Sunday) gives the Trojans an .833 winning percentage, placing them in a four-way tie at No. 21.

In the women's stats, Harvey moved up three more places to No. 25 in rebounding, pulling down an average of 10.1 boards per game. Boone is ranked among the top shot blockers for the third consecutive week, coming in at No. 34 with 1.8 blocked shots per game.

Mount Olive goes on the road Saturday for a Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference doubleheader at Lees-McRae. The women's game tips off at 2 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4 p.m.
