Primary 2008Return to the list of candidates. William Wooten BlandAge: 48 Residence: Goldsboro Occupation: Partner in Bland, Heekin, Smith, Strickland & Stanley, PLLC in Goldsboro. Former assistant district attorney for the 8th District. Law School: University of North Carolina School of Law Q: How do you plan to work to make District Court more efficient and effective? A: In criminal district court, where overcrowding primarily occurs, “first appearances” and uncontested traffic matters are two largely administrative procedures which could be processed separately from the trial calendar. Technological improvements also are welcome. As judge, I would work efficiently in my assigned court and would work hard with my fellow judges and other courtroom staff to relieve court congestion. Q: Why are you the best candidate for this position? A: I have the breadth of experience and the depth of perspective necessary to be an effective district court judge. I am the only candidate with trial court experience from both sides of the courtroom — prosecution and defense. I have worked in the Superior and District Courts throughout Wayne, Lenoir and Greene counties and have represented clients in every type of district court — civil, criminal, juvenile, and domestic. In all matters, I treat people fairly and with respect in pursuit of a just result. |
