Q: How can Congress help make health care for all Americans more affordable?

A: Much of John Edwards’ plan is workable, feasible and bold. I asked him if he would help me and he said that he would. We use a plan laid out by Congress, businesses and the medical community. We use tax incentives for business and tax breaks for physicians. We provide national health care for everyone. We go into committee, work it, and present it for public acceptance in a national referendum if deemed necessary. We reform health care and at least work out something. Hospitals on an average lose $3 to $4 million a year on the uninsured. This is unacceptable.

Q: Will there be immigration reform and if so, how will it balance compassion with rule of law with business interests?

A: We must secure the borders to get our heads together. We don't build a 700-mile solid border to keep people from loving America, and we don't provide blanket amnesty. We go into committee. We reform and re-define, for modern America. This hate and polarity has got to stop. Immigrants must be accountable. Business must be accountable. Greed in our economy for the last seven years has spilled over into being greedier, with short cuts at the expense of legal run business and the welfare of the immigrants, as well as, the American people. Say it. The problem is with Mexican workers. Idea. Form a coalition or union, similar to how black people survived business in the early 1900’s. Rules for venture, with accountability, records, taxes, medical insurance and minimum wage protection etc.

Q: What is your suggestion for dealing with Iraq?

A: The World was with us after 9/11. They could not stand with us on a deceptive path laid out by the Bush administration. America was abused. We will never rebuild American integrity until we exit a land we were never to occupy. We got rid of the bad guy. Now, Iraqis must be responsible and function. 50,000 troops leave Iraq, now. The rest in 20,000 increments every 3 months. Being Marine Corps, I want Bin Laden. I want closure for the families of those lives lost on 9/11. Nobody attacks our home. I have no problem with covert operations, or international swat teams pursuing validity into Bin Laden's demise, death or capture.

Q: How can alternative energy/renewable energy be encouraged without competing with our food sources?

A: Being a meteorologist and helping to start The Weather Channel, wind-power is one option for Eastern North Carolina. We are blessed with a natural resource. The North Carolina coast is the third windiest place in America. We have big sounds behind an ocean. We could generate enough electricity to cover 75 percent of our need. This takes pressure off existing methods. Do not allow oil-drilling off our coast. Oil-laden water currents alone; or, along with a Nor’easter or Hurricane would devestate the Eastern seaboard. Tourism, fishing and building interest would be set back 50 years. Also, we have natural gas capped off now. Use solar panel rigs offshore instead of oil rigs. All this cannot be outsourced. It's ours. Bring back the windfall profit tax, this time with a Democrat president who will not back off from quick profit oil. This could provide for alternative fuel study.

Q: What role should Congress and the federal government be playing in helping stabilize the economy and in particularly, the housing market?

A: We have inflation and we have recession now. The stock market works off fear and speculation. It's a shame, but how it works today. We must take the fear out of that primary home buyer to protect them from losing their home. We make those same preadatory mortgage lenders, rework the adjustable rate becoming the fixed rate, at the same initial interest rate provided at time of purchase. They take the loss as penalty for inappropriate business practices. Bailout by the Fed is unacceptable. We stop corporate tax breaks. Good idea, but abused with taking gained revenue and outsourcing, instead of building stock in American workers and business. Switch to tax breaks for the middle and lower income. Generate cash flow from the bottom up. No capital gains tax for start-up businesses. I want investigation into business reforming. Those predatory leaders have formed new companies with other companies under different names and buying up the foreclosed homes that they sold in the first place.

Q: What message can you take to Washington D.C. about the needs of rural areas like Eastern North Carolina?

A: I worked these waters and this land as a kid. I understand the fluctuating economy that we have. It’s based on sound living from centuries past. Farming, fishing, manufacturing, boat building etc. laid the groundwork for posterity. When we're hurting, it's felt here first, and then filters into problems for everyone else. It’s family and church that kept us strong. These are the folks that will survive. The building economy that got greedy, has suffered, and the effect trickles down from high atop that mountain. The effects are devastating and real. Real North Carolinians don't sit on their hands, they find a way to prosper and share. We can farm. We have land and water. Give us seed. We have expanding highways. Come and build and provide jobs. North Carolina and the military are one. I will find business with financial perspectives and aggressive outlooks, that accent Eastern North Carolina, and bring it here. We must have hurricane protection measures. I know where to find appropriations for building an evacuation network. We must clean our waters. We must prosper. It’s America. It’s North Carolina.
