James Robert Powell Jr., 87, passed away at his residence Monday evening.
He was the son of the late James R. Powell Sr. and Madge Sutton Powell, and was the husband of Mavis Arlene Bell Powell.
Mr. Powell was a member of Thunder Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church, and a retired carpenter.
A graveside service will be held at Wayne Memorial Park Friday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Jonathan Altman officiating.
The family will receive friends following the graveside service, and at other times, at his residence, 407 Smith Chapel Road, Mount Olive, N.C.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Powell is survived by two sons, Robert Powell and wife, Mary Kay, of Mount Olive and James Samuel Powell of Princeton; two daughters, Teresa Worley and husband, Rick, of Smithfield and Mary Carter and husband, Ronnie, of Mount Olive; two grandchildren, Stacey Leigh Powell of Rosewood and Chelsea Brooke Preddy and husband, Gordon, of Mount Pleasant; two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Axel of Rosewood; five brothers, John David Powell and wife, Helen, of Goldsboro, A.C. Powell of Dudley, Joseph Powell and wife, Marjorie, of Mount Olive, Dewey Lee Powell and wife, Janet, of Mount Olive and Willie Ray Powell and wife, Carolyn, of Faison; and four sisters, Margaret Wells of Goldsboro, Sallie Jane Hodgin and husband, George, of Goldsboro, Sandra Foss and husband, Ronnie, of Goldsboro and Doris Cherry of Mount Olive.
