Jean Bostick Worrell died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center in Wilmington, N.C.

Born Aug. 23, 1919, in Mecklenburg County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Harrell Bostick and Ruth Wiseman Roberts Bostick.

She graduated from Rex Hospital Nursing School in Raleigh as an RN, and met and married her husband, John Thaddeus Worrell, shortly thereafter. They spent most of their married life in Goldsboro, until her husband's death in 2002. They were happily married for 62 years.

Last April, she moved to Champions Assisted Living in Wilmington.

Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who taught her family the value of unconditional love through the gift of her love for them.

She is survived by her daughter, Peggy W. Wilson of Oak Island; her son, John T. Worrell Jr. and his wife, Delores, of Swansboro; grandchildren, Todd Wilson, Kelly Van Sciver and husband, Jason, J. Kenyon Worrell and wife, Kristen, Travis P. Worrell and wife, Stacey, and Steven Joseph Worrell and wife, Mary; and great-grandchildren, Zoe Van Sciver, Nicholas Joseph Worrell and Sydney Elizabeth Worrell.

Her family was deeply loved and the joy of her life.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her sisters, Dora Ferger, Florence Heim and Joeann Ault.

Jean was an active member of several Methodist churches over the years, and served her church in many capacities.

She, along with her husband, were charter members of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Goldsboro, and later, were devoted members of Providence United Methodist Church.

At the time of her death, she was the oldest living member of Providence Church.

She was blessed with a beautiful voice, and was a soloist in the church choir for a number of years.

Over the years, Jean also served her community in a number of volunteer capacities, and was actively involved with the Soup Kitchen, Meals on Wheels and the American Red Cross bloodmobile.

Jean was a loving person with a big heart and a kind word to say about everyone she met. She was dearly loved by her family and friends, and will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, at Providence United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jerry Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The family will greet friends following the service in the fellowship hall.

The family would like to thank the staffs at Champions Assisted Living of Davis community and Lower Cape Fear Hospice for the excellent loving care they provided over the past few months.
