Robert Lee Powell, 72, Marion, S.C., died Friday, Dec. 25, 2015, at Carolinas Hospital of Florence, S.C., surrounded by his loving family.
The family received friends Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Richardson Funeral Home in Marion, S.C.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Casey Funeral Home chapel in Princeton, N.C.
Mr. Powell was born in Smithfield, N.C., son of the late Robert Bruce Powell and Mildred Virginia Moore Powell.
He was also predeceased by a brother, William Howard Powell.
Mr. Powell was retired millwright for Blumenthal Mills.
He was a member of the Goldsboro High School Class of 1962 and an avid baseball, football and basketball player.
Surviving are his wife, Eileen S. Powell of Marion, S.C.; sons, Sherman Sloan of Union County, N.C., and Scott Sloan of Marion, S.C.; daughters, Lisa Elaine Powell Tart of Benson, N.C., and Susan (Bobbi Sue) Powell of Greensboro, N.C.; brothers, Kenneth Bruce Powell (Venice Powell) of Vero Beach, Fla., and Jerry Wayne Powell (Kathy Powell) of Kenly, N.C.; sister, Barbara Powell Davis of Vero Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four nieces; and two nephews.
