Norman Allen "Candy Man" Melton Sr., 82, Goldsboro, passed away Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014, at the home of his daughter in Pikeville.
Norman was born in Duval County, Fla., Oct. 2, 1932, to the late Claude and Nettie Moore Melton.
He was married to the late Dorcas Besch Melton, who preceded him in death April 8, 2006.
Norman faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force, and retired in 1973 after 23 years of service.
Graveside services will be held Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at 2 p.m. in Wayne Memorial Park with military honors. The Rev. Barry Williamson will officiate.
Norman is survived by his daughters, Pam Brown and husband, Tom, of Oklahoma, Terrie Holmes and husband, Keith, of Pikeville, Kim Allard and husband, Dave, of Connecticut, Cheri Melton of Pikeville and Anjie Hare of Surf City; son, Norman Melton Jr. of Tennessee; grandchildren, Machelle Lund, Elizabeth Mitchell, Racheal Martinez, Dawne Simpson, Arthur Callis, Cindy Terpe, Nicholas Hare, Connor Hare, Rayne Hare, Nichole Hare and Billy Hare III; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his special K-9 friend, Sonny.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by infant sons, Michael Wayne Melton and Keith Russell Melton.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Wayne County Humane Society, 104 S. Center St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times, at the home of his daughter, 407 Bladestone Drive, Pikeville.
