Elder James W. Barnes, 87, lovingly known by his family and friends as "Elder Barnes," 607 S. Claiborne St., Goldsboro, N.C., departed his earthly life Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, Goldsboro, N.C.
James was born in Wilson County, N.C., April 19, 1927. He was born to the late Mrs. Blanche Farmer Barnes and Mr. John Ed Barnes.
He received his education in the public schools of Wilson County.
James served his country by enlisting and serving in the United States Army.
Elder Barnes dedicated his life to Jesus Christ at an early age. He was a member of and attended Saint Mark Church of Christ in Faro, N.C.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Saint Mark Church of Christ, 893 Lanetown Road, Faro, N.C. Dr. Onyx W. Martin Sr. will officiate.
Interment will follow in Pineview Cemetery, 761 N. Raleigh St., Rocky Mount, N.C.
Also, a public viewing will be held Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, in D. L. McIntyre Memorial Chapel at McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., from 2 to 6 p.m.
Elder Barnes leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories to his wife of the home, Carolyn P. Barnes of Goldsboro, N.C.; his children, Furnace W. Barnes (Ivery) of Stafford, Va., Durrene Barnes of Rocky Mount, N.C., Cathie Martin (Onyx) of Warsaw, N.C., James Jackson (Nell) of Stokesdale, N.C., and Sheila Stephens, Anthony Barnes, Keith Barnes, Ahmad Barnes, Anthony R. Barnes and Jalin Barnes all of Goldsboro, N.C.; his grandchildren, Jeremy Worthy, Furnace W. Barnes Jr., Mariah Barnes, Charles Barnes, Onyx W. Martin Jr., Gabriel and Jannah Jackson and Pierre Dickens; his 10 great-grandchildren; and his nieces, nephews, other relatives, church members and friends.
Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, the family members and friends will assemble one hour prior at 9:45 a.m. at the residence of Mrs. Carolyn Barnes, 607 S. Claiborne St., Goldsboro, N.C., in preparation for the funeral procession.
