EMMA R. HOWELL
Oct. 8, 1918-Oct. 5, 2014
Early Sunday morning, Oct. 5, 2014, Emma Rowe Howell, 95, Pikeville, moved to her heavenly home, just three days before her 96th birthday. She was surrounded by her loving family singing hymns in her final moments as she crossed the River Jordan.
Mrs. Howell was a godly woman, who loved the Lord and her family with all of her heart, and set an example for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that will lead them all their lives. She was always happiest when spending time with her family.
Mrs. Howell was born in Johnston County Oct. 8, 1918, to the late Joseph Benjamin Rowe and Hepsy Cornelia "Delia" Edwards Rowe.
She was married for 42 years to the late Paul Howell, whom she dearly missed and spoke of often.
Mrs. Howell was a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church. She was devoted to her church and her church family, and took great pride in attending church faithfully Sunday mornings, where she was quick to point out she had four generations of her family in attendance.
Mrs. Howell will be remembered for her unconditional love as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend and inspiration to all. So, too, will she be remembered for her compassionate spirit and soul and her gift of finding joy in doing random acts of kindness for others.
She was the embodiment of love as we have been taught by our savior, Christ Jesus. Granny, as most of her family called her, was a wise woman with a quick wit, and her family will always cherish time spent with her. She was forever loving and will be forever loved.
A service celebrating Mrs. Howell's life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at Pleasant Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Barry Stallings officiating. Interment will follow in Pikeville Cemetery.
Mrs. Howell is survived by her daughters, Pauline Denning and husband, Facie, and Pett Hare and husband, Jay, all of Pikeville; grandchildren, Sheldon Denning, Karen Baker and husband, Tony, Kim Berryman and husband, Richard, and Amy Fisher and husband, Keith; and great-grandchildren, Emily Coggins and husband, Tony, Amber Baker, Bradley Fisher, Hunter Berryman and Hailey Berryman.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by her brothers, Alvin, Carl and George Rowe, and her sisters, Bertha Evans, Geraldine Brown and Lavina Gower.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Meals on Wheels Program, 601 Royall Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Pett and Jay Hare, 401 W. Church St., Pikeville.
Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
