Joseph Carroll Herring, 82, Holloman Heights subdivision, Mount Olive, passed away Wednesday morning, March 12, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
The Herring family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home Saturday morning, March 15, from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time it will proceed to Wayne Memorial Park for an 11:30 a.m. graveside service to be officiated by the Rev. Douglas Dexter.

Mr. Herring was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, where he was an engineer with 33 years of loyal service.
He served in the United States Air Force for a brief enlistment, was a member of Mount Olive Fire Dept. in years past, was a member of First Christian Church of Mount Olive and had been an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Peggy W. Herring of the home; three children and their spouses, Donna Carol and A. Lee Morris, Mary Beth and Bryan Copeland and Tony Dean and Pat Herring all of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Jennifer Morris Finnegan and husband, Ryan, Natalie Fields Morris, Bart Copeland, Benjamin Tyler Herring and Joseph Robert Herring all of Raleigh and Megan Hazzard and husband, Matt, of Richmond, Va.; a great-granddaughter, Callie Finnegan of Raleigh; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, Edgar Allen Herring and Mary Walker Herring, preceded their son in death, as did his three brothers, Victor Herring, Baynard Herring and Frank Herring.
