James Earlon Killette, peacefully passed at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield surrounded by his loving family Jan. 26, 2014.
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
James was born in Lenoir County July 28, 1923, to the late Gilbert Killette and Hepsi Parks Killette.
James loved his country and served it well. He was in the United States Army in World War II.
He spent most of his life farming, building and managing property in the Mount Olive and Dudley area.
He was a great lover of nature, and was a builder of many beautiful homes.
He had a special love for his wife, Daisy, and always wanted to be with her.
He loved the Lord, and worshipped in his own way.
He was a member of Pentecostal Holiness Church in Mount Olive.
His greatest companion was Lady, his beloved Chihuahua.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Thomas McLendon officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in LaGrange.
The family will receive Friday beginning at 1 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
James is survived by his wife of 30 years, Daisy Pope Killette, and his children and stepchildren, daughters, Sharon Godwin of Mount Olive, Jean Kroum and husband, Jerry, of San Antonio, Texas, Dawn Amory and husband, Kevin, of Goldsboro and Wendy Johnson of Princeton, sons, David Killette and wife, Amelia, of Swansboro and Michael Thigpen of Melbourne Fla.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Robie Killette and wife, Sybil, and Tom Killette and wife, Kathy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Reese Killette, Wayne Killette, Ray Killette, and sisters, Mary Rachel Smith and Elizabeth Phipps.
Although flowers are welcome, the family suggests that memorials be made to SECU House, 426 Hospital Road, Smithfield, N.C., 27577.
