Joseph Henry “J.H.” Newberry Jr., 76, died Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Born in Beaufort County, he was the son of the late Joseph Henry Sr. and Nona Mayo Newberry, and the husband of the late Sarah Margaret Newberry.
He was retired veteran with United States Air Force.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with full military honors.
Mr. Newberry is survived by his sons, retired Lt. Col. Joseph H. Newberry III of Alexandria, Va., and Douglas Lee (and wife, Tanya) Newberry of Goldsboro; son-in-law, David Duffin of England; four sisters, Frances Rabil of Louisburg, Elizabeth Cutler of Pantego, Eula Cohron of Greenville and Inez Harris of Chesapeake, Va.; four grandchildren, Christian and Sara Newberry and Darren and Samantha Galloway; and step-grandchild, Foster Wohlgamuth.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tina Galloway.
The family will receive friends Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of his son, 618 U.S. 13 South in Goldsboro.
