LESTER ARTIS

Lester Artis, 920 Atlantic Ave., was born in Wayne County Nov. 21, 1943, to the later Wiley Sr. and Mayolia Artis. He departed his life April 25, 2011.
Lester received his education in the Wayne County Schools.
Lester was em-ployed at Export Tobacco and Hard Wood Dimension.
In his pastime, he worked on lawn mowers and making quilts.
Lester was preceded in death by three brothers, William "Ham" Artis, Wiley "Bobby" Artis Jr. and Johnny Ray Artis, and a sister, Clara Mae Hudson.
He leaves to cherish his memory a very special loved one, Bettie Farmer of the home; a son, Lawrence "Buck" Hall of the home; seven stepsons, Charles Ray Farmer, James Earl Farmer, Isaac Allen Farmer, Christopher Farmer, Eddie Farmer Sr., Robert Farmer and Bennie Farmer; two stepdaughters, Teressa Farmer and Cynthia (Leonard) Simmons; two brothers, Jimmy (Betty) Artis and Charles H. Artis; five sisters, Delora Conley Artis, Vero J. Tomlin, Rhonda F. Ford and Vernessa V. (Larry) Harris all of Goldsboro, N.C., and Doris (Ralpheal) Newsome of Pikeville, N.C.; 60 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A viewing for Mr. Artis will be held today from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will be present to receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m.
A service of remembrance will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Greater Morning Star Church in Fremont. After which, Mr. Artis' corporeal temple, along with his adored family, will be escorted to Fremont Cemetery for interment rites.
Mr. Artis' earthen vessel is peacefully resting at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home, where the family is receiving services of compassion and distinguished class.
