BENSON -- Mrs. Judith Brantham Mitchell, 93, Benson passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro surrounded by her family.
A graveside service to honor Judy's life will be held Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Wayne County, with the Rev. Vann Spivey and the Rev. Ron Patton officiating.
Judith was born in Wayne County Feb. 10, 1917, to the late Thomas Faro and Eliza Jane Johnson Brantham, and was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Burl Mitchell Sr., as well as six sisters and three brothers.
Judy was employed as a licensed practical nurse for 14 years at Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn, and for one year at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield.
She was an active member of Benson United Methodist Church, and a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
For those who knew her, Judy will be remembered as a caring and compassionate lady and loyal friend.
The loves in Judy's life were God, family and friends.
Judy is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, C.B. Mitchell Jr. of Goldsboro, Gerald B. and Jimmie Ann Mitchell of Goldsboro and Gary A. and Janna Mitchell of Ivanhoe; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson.
Flowers are welcome; however, memorials in Judy's honor may be sent to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
