DR. PAUL C. BENNETT JR.

Dr. Paul Clifford Bennett Jr. died Jan. 8, 2011, at home.
He was born in Kinston, N.C., Dec. 27, 1928, and was the son of the late Winnie Strickland Bennett and Paul Clifford Bennett Sr.
Dr. Bennett was an honor graduate of Wake Forest University in 1951, and a graduate of Duke University Medical School in 1955.
He served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958.
Dr. Bennett completed his post graduate studies at Duke University Hospital with a residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.
He opened a practice in family medicine in Goldsboro, N.C., Jan. 5, 1959, and it was his honor and privilege to take care of his patients for 34 years.
While he loved a round of golf, his joy was practicing medicine. He was an active member of the medical community, and served as president of the Wayne Memorial Hospital staff and the Wayne County Medical Society.
Dr. Bennett was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, and served the church he loved as chairman of the administrative board, lay leader and chairman of the finance committee. He further served the Methodist Church as a member of the United Methodist Conference Board for seven years.
Dr. Bennett is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marcia Drake Bennett; his children, Michaux Bennett McMillan and husband, Stuart, and Paul Clifford Bennett III and wife, Paige; grandchildren Paul Clifford Bennett IV and wife, Adeline, Lauren Michaux Bennett and Katherine Randolph McMillan; sisters-in-law, Patricia Drake Masius and Elizabeth Drake Berryhill; and friend and devoted caregiver, Karen Hodges.
He loved his family, his friends and the community he served.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011.
The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 204 E. Chestnut St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
