Name

Jan. 28, 1957-Dec. 31, 2010

Allen "Al" Lewis McCormick was the son of the Late Russell McCormick Jr. and Annie Bethea McCormick.

He departed this life Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, in Goldsboro, N.C., in the comfort of his home.

He was born Jan. 28, 1957, and was 53 years old.

He was educated in the Guilford County Public School system, and graduated from High Point Central High School in 1976.

He was a dedicated worker, and held various jobs throughout his lifetime.

At the time of his death, he was employed by the Wayne County Public School System. He was a school bus driver and a cafeteria worker. He took great pride in his work, and did thoroughly enjoy working with the students and faculty at Norwayne Middle School.

"Mr. Al" was recognized as the Bus Driver of the Year for Norwayne for the 2006-2007 school year. He often stated that he wished he could return to work, but could not due to failing health. He truly did love his work with the school system, and always did it with a smile.

He joined Temple Memorial Baptist Church in High Point, N.C., at an early age. After relocating to Goldsboro, he later became affiliated with New St. John AME Church.

Affectionately known as "Al," he will be missed by many.

Celebration of life services will take place Friday at 1 p.m. at New St. John AME Church with the family present to receive friends at 12:30 p. m. Interment for Mr. McCormick will resume Saturday at 12 noon in Rowland, N.C. It is in this earthly consign where Al's loved ones can return to pay respect; however, all that knew him have that peace that surpasses all understanding just knowing that Allen has crossed those celestial shores, where the wicked has ceased from troubling and every weary soul is now at rest.

Services of compassion and distinguished class are rendered by E.M. Matthews Home and Cremations Inc.
