HAZEL C. NEWSOME

LAGRANGE -- Hazel Cunningham Newsome, 93, passed Thursday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.
Hazel was born in Wayne County April 23, 1917, to the late Tom Cunningham and Sudie Herring Cunningham.
She had lived in the Beston community for more than 68 years, and had a great love for working with flowers as her yard did always show.
Hazel retired from Wayne Memorial Hospital, and was a charter member of United in Christ Church.
Funeral services will be Friday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ira Williford and the Rev. Cindy Bartlett officiating. Interment will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Friday following the service, and other times at her residence.
Hazel is survived by her son, Lenwood Earl Newsome and wife, Marjorie, of Goldsboro; her daughters, Jean Wood and husband, Earl, of LaGrange and Marie Evans of LaGrange; her sister, Ethel Cunningham of LaGrange; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her niece, Sandra Foss of LaGrange.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter; Faye Wade; her sisters, Reba Sutton, Ruby Cunningham and Lois Davis; and her grandson, David Wood.
