JAMES A. NEWSOME

James Arthur Newsome, 75, departed this life Saturday morning at Duke University Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, with the Rev. Julian Pridgen officiating.
James was born May 16, 1934, in Goldsboro to the late David Newsome Sr. and Bessie Croom Newsome.
He was a graduate of Dillard High School's class of 1952. He served four years in the United States Air Force and was retired from the Department of Defense printing office.
James was a "jack of all trades," who was known for working hard, his avid love of golf and his devotion to his family.
James is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret Newsome; two sons, Kenneth Newsome Sr. (Melba) of District Heights, Md., and Galen Newsome (Sunnie) of Fairburn, Ga.; daughter, Tina Lee (Ray) of Burlington, N.J.; three brothers, William McKinley of Waterbury, Conn., Theodore of Goldsboro and David of Goldsboro; two sisters, Edna Whitaker of Richmond, Va., and Dorothy Flanagan of East Orange, N.J.; six grandchildren, Kenneth Newsome Jr., Jaleesa Newsome, Ciarra Lee, Brandon Lee, Jordan Lee and Sarah Butler; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
There will be a public viewing Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St. in Goldsboro, where the family will receive friends the same day from 7 to 8 p.m.
