Deacon John Lee Daniels, 83, of 503 King Drive, departed this life on Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be conducted on Monday at 11 a.m. at Bear Creek Association Headquarters Building, 1800 S. Slocumb St., with the Rev. Dr. Michael A. Johnson presiding and the Rev. Dr. Jesse H. Garrett delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery, 2925 S. U.S. 117 Hwy., Goldsboro, NC 27530.
Deacon Daniels was born in Wayne County to the Late Burke Daniels Sr. and Aldonia Coley Daniels. Four brothers and five sisters preceded him in death.
Deacon Daniels served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged.
Deacon Daniels retired from Cherry Hospital after 27 years of service.
He was a member of Holly Green Missionary Baptist Church in Dudley, where he served faithfully as a deacon, trustee and superintendent of Sunday school for many years. Also, he was a devoted and active member and officer of the Bear Creek Association Headquarters Building.
An inspirational wake will be held this evening at Bear Creek Association Headquarters Building, from 6 until 7 p.m., with the family present to receive other family members and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of the home, Helen Wilson Daniels; two sisters, Dorette C. Lee and Mary M. Artis and husband, Leroy, of Washington, D.C.; nine sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; three godchildren and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence.
The Daniels family takes this opportunity to extend many thanks to the medical professional staff at Wayne Memorial Hospital and the Brian Rehabilitation Center's professional staff of Goldsboro.
