The Rev. Julia Crawford King, 84, lovingly known by her family and friends as "Julia Mae," 708 E. Elm St., went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Saint Delight United Holy Church in Parkstown community, 976 LaGrange Road in LaGrange, with pastor elder Devin C. Pickett Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Old Mill Cemetery, 2660 Central Heights Road in Goldsboro.
Julia Mae was born in Wayne County May 6, 1925, and was the daughter of the late Lenora Lewis Crawford and Lawyer Crawford.
Rev. King retired in the late 1980s from Goldsboro City Schools where she worked as a cafeteria technician for 30 years. She was employed at Dillard High School, William Street School and North Drive Elementary School.
She is survived by her son, Henry A. King of the home; her grandson, Alton King and his wife, Tamika, of Goldsboro; four great-grandchildren; two nieces, whom she reared, Gwendolyn C. Mason and her husband, Gregory, of Bowie, Md., and Ora Jean Crawford of Goldsboro; one sister, Carolyn Kates Smith and her husband, Thomas, of Southfield, Mich.; one brother, John Frank Kates of Goldsboro; a devoted caregiver and nephew, James Eddie Crawford; and a host of other relatives and friend.
Her husband, John Henry King, preceded her in death.
A public viewing will be held Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St. in Goldsboro. Also, a wake will be held Friday at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St. in Goldsboro from 7 to 8 p.m.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence of Rev. Julia King, 708 E. Elm St. in Goldsboro.
