HAZEL A. PICKUP

Hazel Anderson Pickup, 91, of The Pines, passed away Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with the Revs. Joann Turner and Bryant Hines officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Born in the Elroy community of Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Gertrude B. Anderson, and was the widow of the late Estes Pickup.
She graduated from high school in that community, and was the youngest of her siblings. Mrs. Pickup was a member of the Casey Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, the church ladies auxiliary, and sang in the church choir for over 60 years. She was retired after approximately 25 years form Mickey's Pastry, and was a member of the New Hope Grange and the New Hope Jubilee Club.
She is survived by her son, Donald R. Lynch and wife, Sarah; a daughter-in-law, Judy D. Lynch; stepdaughters, Nancy Wallace and Kathy P. Johnson and husband, Chuck; stepson, Robert Pickup; grandchildren, Gary Lynch and wife, Gail, John Lynch Jr., George Lynch and wife, Cherise, and Donna Haggerty and husband, William "Bill"; stepgrandchildren, Amy Summerlin and husband, Steve and Michele Hendricks and husband, Kevin.; five great-grandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; one special niece, Ann Hart; and several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Pickup was preceded in death by her son John Dee Lynch Sr.; brothers Roy, Charlie and Council Anderson; sisters, Bernice Hinnant, Mary Ivey, Wilma Hinnant and Kenzie Anderson; and a stepson-in-law, Jim Wallace.
