MARIE H. DICKERSON

Sept. 18, 1923-Feb. 12 2009

CALYPSO -- Not quite a year since the passing of the love of her life, Marie Ann Dickerson reunited with her husband in heaven on Thursday. Born in West Virginia and forever a mountaineer at heart, she made Calypso her home for the past 26 years. Those who were fortunate enough to know her were aware of her kind heart, humor and strength. A member of Peace Baptist Church, she was a devout Christian who never had a harsh word, and could find the good in anyone. To her family, she was a loving wife, mom, sister, and grandma who always had open arms and infinite wisdom. On Sundays, she filled her home with family, home cooking, singing hymns (although off-key, we enjoyed them!) and smiles.

While in West Virginia, she enjoyed a 34-year career as secretary with Cole Baking Company, followed by a tenure with the Montgomery-Ward Company. In Calypso, she was a longtime employee of the Friendly Mart in Calypso.

Marie is survived by a son, Roger Dickerson and wife, Janet, of Colonial Heights, Va.; two daughters, Linda Witherington of Mount Olive, and Linda Sue Dickerson of Dudley; another son, Glen Dickerson and wife, Peggy, of Mount Olive; a sister, Hope Yost and husband, Ted, of Charleston, W.Va.; grandchildren, Patrick Dickerson and Ann Cree Mills, both of Mount Olive, and Tracie Walker of Virginia Beach, Va.; and great-grandchildren, Rachel, Alex, and Christopher Dickerson, Tyler, Kaylie, and Braxton Mills, and Madeline, Lily, and Ava Walker.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Joseph P. Dickerson; a son-in-law, Charles Witherington; a grandson, Brian Dickerson; her parents, John and Katherine Hamrick, and her beloved brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends this evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, Mount Olive, and at other times at the home of Linda Witherington, 747 Shady Grove Road, Mount Olive. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. by the graveside in the Calypso Cemetery. The Rev. Ken Powell will be the officiating minister. Flowers are welcome, or memorial gifts may be made to Peace Baptist Church, P.O. Box 331, Calypso, NC 28325.

We have no doubts where she is now, so along with our pain and tears we have happiness and smiles. She will be unbelievably missed because we loved her so much...always have...always will!
