FAISON -- Rachel Nunn Byrd, 82, passed away Monday surrounded by her family.
Family visitation will be held tonight at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home from 6 to 8. Funeral services will be held Thursday at Faison Baptist Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Rose officiating. Entombment will follow at Calypso Cemetery.
Born in Duplin County, she was the daughter of the late Leslie Ray and Fannie B. Nunn, mother of the late Willie Ray Byrd, and sister of the late Dorothy Jackson. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and granny. She will be missed by family and friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Faison.
She was survived by her husband of 63 years, Billy Byrd; a daughter, Fran (Tom) Hardy of Greensboro; a son, Danny (Francis) Byrd of Faison; a brother, Ike Nunn of Calypso; grandchildren, Jody Hardy, Megan Hardy, Amanda (Dan) Holder, of Greensboro, and Tonya Byrd of Raleigh; great-grandchildren Thomas Hardy, Dan Holder and Taylor Holder of Greensboro; and pet, Patches, of the home
