RICHARD P. DENISE

Richard Patterson Denise, 76, passed away on Saturday.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. Interment will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Westview Cemetery, Kinston.
Richard is survived by his wife, Kathryn Newton Denise; his children, Dr. Richard Denise and wife, Wendy, and Kathy Denise; his grandchildren, Marci Monolda, Dr. Jason Denise and Shaina Clemons; and his great-grandchildren, Aliza Freda Monolda and Tyler Joseph Monolda.
Richard was born in Montreal, Canada, to the late Lorena Patterson Denise and Warren Edward Denise. He graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1951. He received his Nuclear Engin-eering Degree in 1955, from the University of North Carolina at State and did his graduate studies at the University of Virginia.
Richard retired in 1987, after dedicated service to his country. President Jimmy Carter had appointed Richard as a charter member of the Senior Executive Service in July 1979. He was listed in the Who's Who in the South and Southwest in 1966.
Richard's accomplishments included several patents for Reactor designs. He worked on the designs of Reactors that powered the N.S. Savannah, the world's first nuclear powered merchant ship. Richard was the lead engineer on the Breeder Reactor and worked as a consultant for the Department of Energy until he retired in 2002.
Richard fought a valiant battle with Parkinson's Disease for more than 12 years. His quiet, kind spirit and devotion to his God made him an unforgettable person.
Memorials may be made to the Endowment Fund of First Free Will Baptist Church, 604 E. Ash St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
The family will receive friends Tuesday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home.
