WARSAW -- William "Bill" Grady, 79, of Warsaw, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Community Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Brandy officiating. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Community Funeral Home. Burial will be at Devotional Gardens following the service.
Bill, a native of Duplin County, was a farmer most of his life. He spend his later years caring for his beloved wife, Annie Marie, until her death in July of 2006. He also enjoyed going to the beach, spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening and growing his prized tomatoes.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas and Nell Chambers Grady; his brothers, Marvin, J.T., T.C., and Harvey; his sisters, Ernestine Summerlin and Irene Wood.
Bill is survived by his four daughters, Annette Norwood and husband, Randy, of Warsaw, Gail King and husband, George, of Mount Olive, Cynthia Taylor and friend Carol Britt of Warsaw, and Becky Weeks and husband, Mark, of Faison; son Billy Grady and wife, Gwen Lanier Grady, of Warsaw; grandchildren Matt Norwood and wife, Jennifer, of Warsaw, Josh Norwood and wife, Lauren, of Kenansville, Laura Lambert and husband, Rodney, of Calypso, George King Jr. and fiancee, Jamie, of Mount Olive, Dawn Bell and husband, David, of Kenansville, Karla Minyard and husband, Shawn, of Warsaw, Johnathan Holloman of Warsaw, Patrick Stephens of Warsaw, Sonya Revels and husband, Jeffrey, of Clinton, Chris Grady and wife, Sandy, of Warsaw; his great-grandchildren, Camden Norwood, Alison Lambert, Chelsea Bell, Madison and Will Minyard, Evan, Lauren, and Emma Grace Revels, and Taylor, Ethan, and Hayley Grady; his sister, Olive Jones and husband, Coy, of LaGrange.
Despite being diagnosed with lung cancer in February 2004, Bill continued to enjoy life until May 2008 when he was diagnosed with brain cancer. The family would like to thank the hospice staff of 3HC, Pat Benson of Faison and Jean Boutin of Roseboro for their care and support of Bill during his last months at home.
