Daniel Guion Williams Sr., 85, of Rains Cross Roads, died peacefully at his home on Jan. 1, 2009.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, with viewing between 2 and 3 p.m. at Rains Crossroads Free Will Baptist Church. The Rev. Calvin A. Heath will be officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Born Jan. 24, 1923 in Craven County to the late Rev. Walter R. Williams and Carrenna B. Williams, he was preceded in death by his wife, Erdeen B. Williams; sister, Billy Williams; and brother, Boyce Williams. Mr. Williams worked for General Electric as an instructor and AAA class mechanic before retiring in 1973. He continued to run and expanded the family farm at Rains Cross Roads. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, and member of the Kenly American Legion.
Surviving are his son, Daniel G. Williams Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Apex; daughter, Diane Williams of New York; sisters La Vee Bailey of Smithfield and Juanita Fornouff of Baltimore; and brother, Walter R. Williams of Princeton.
