WILLIAM BARKLEY SR.
LEXINGTON, S.C. -- A graveside memorial service, with military honors, for William T. Barkley Sr., 86, formerly of Dudley, N.C., and Charleston, S.C., will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at Woodridge Memorial Park, Lexington, S.C., with the Rev. Rocky Purvis officiating.
Mr. Barkley was born in Johnson City, Tenn., to Ralph Ingersoll Barkley and Susan Smith Barkley. He was a WWII veteran and received a B.S. from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tenn., and a M.S. from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. As an educator, he served as a teacher and principal for 22 years. Later, he retired from civil service for the U.S. Government. He was a member of St. Luke's Methodist Church in Goldsboro, N.C.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Kathleen N. Barkley of Lexington; three sons, William T. Barkley Jr. and wife, Linda, of Lexington, S.C., Robert I. Barkley and wife, Linda, of Palm Bay, Fla., and Bradford L. Barkley and wife, Deborah, of Monroe, N.C.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Nell Heape of Kingsport, Tenn. He was predeceased by a grandson, a brother and a sister.
