Betty Ruth Lee Spears, 69, of 419 Oakwood Ave., died Friday at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Mount Olive. The Rev. Elbert Hollowell will preside at the service.
A native of Duplin County, she was the daughter of the late William Marshall Lee and Beulah Mae Hall Lee. She attended the Raleigh School for the Blind, was a member of Sanford Baptist Church, and was involved with the activities at the Enrichment Center of Lee County. She was the widow of Isaac M. Spears and was a retired concession stand operator.
She is survived by two daughters, Teresa Reece of Sanford and Angela Spears of Pink Hill; a son, Jerry Spears of Sanford; two sisters, Thelma Lee Davis of Mount Olive and Edith Lee Wellington of Goldsboro; seven grandchildren, Shawn and Crystal Reece, Tabitha, Joey, and Joshua Spears, Maegan and Brandon Bolick; two great-grandchildren, Michael Spears and Brandie Bolick; a dear family friend, Lupe Rivera of Sanford; and three special friends whom she met while attending the Raleigh School for the Blind, Peggy Rion and Virginia Lockamy of Charlotte, and Maria Collins of Raleigh.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Lee Cox.
A visitation will be held Sunday (today) from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive. At other times, family and friends may gather at the home of the Rev. & Mrs. Herbert S. Davis, 102 Tillman Street, Mount Olive.
