JOHN H. FIELDS JR.
John Henry Fields Jr., 78, died Monday at North Carolina Special Care in Wilson.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory. The Rev. Bill Cotton and the Rev. Elmer Fields will officiate. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Harrell's Chapel Church Cemetery in Snow Hill.
Mr. Fields was born in Greene County on June 20, 1926, to the late John Henry and Minnie Stanley Fields. He was a member of Fremont Holiness Church and was a former member of Clingman Street Church of God. A United States Army veteran, he served in World War II and was stationed in Italy.
He is survived by two sons and their wives, John "Quinton" and Cindy Fields of Tarboro and Thomas and Sue Fields of Conetoe; one daughter and her husband, Nola and James Meeks of Conetoe; two brothers, Elmer Roy Fields of Hampton, Va. and Walter Henderson Fields of Apex; four sisters, Vayria "Bunnie" Whitley of Snow Hill, Gladys Edwards of Goldsboro, Myrtie Hunt of Clayton and Judy Price of Angier; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two special nieces, Sharlene Register and Tammy Tyner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas "Shorty" Fields, Lynwood Earl Fields and Marvin Patrick Fields; and one grandchild, Wendy.
The family will receive friends at Howell Funeral Home following the service on Thursday, and other times at the home of Bunnie Whitley, 2788 Peanut Road, Snow Hill.
