Area events canceled, postponed

A number of events have been canceled or postponed in advance of the arrival of Hurricane Florence.
The Shriners Fish Fry that was scheduled Friday is rescheduled for Oct. 26. Anyone who purchased tickets in advance will be able to use them on Oct. 26.
The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce has postponed its Economic Outlook Luncheon that was to take place today. A rescheduled date will be announced at a later date.
The Wayne County Public Library has canceled today's program "Not For Long: the Life and Career of the NFL Athlete" by Robert W. Turner II, Ph.D. There are no plans to reschedule the program at this time, but the library will notify the public if a new date becomes available. Classes at Wayne Community College are canceled as of 5 p.m. today and remain suspended Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The campus will close at 5:30 p.m. today and remain closed through Sunday. The college will announce any changes to the schedule, as soon as informed decisions can be made.
The Wayne County Retired School Personnel meeting scheduled Thursday is canceled.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has canceled the Constitution Day Naturalization Ceremony planned today at Wayne Community College. The make-up date will be announced when it is determined.
The Fremont town board meeting scheduled for Sept. 18 has been canceled.
