Wayne County Board of Education recognizes school resource officer

The Wayne County Board ofEducation recognized Goldsboro police officer Nicki Artis for his more than 13 years of service at Goldsboro High School.
Artis, a staple of Goldsboro High, spent over 13 years at the school serving as the school resource officer.
Artis began his career helping others as a children's crisis specialist at Eastern Wayne High School. After three years in that position, he transitioned from education to law enforcement as an officer with the Goldsboro Police Department.
In 2004, he was named school resource officer at Goldsboro High.
During his tenure, he provided more than just school security, Artis built relationships with students and served as a mentor, role model and strong advocate for students.
Artis coordinated all security for school district events held within the city of Goldsboro. He also served the board of education from 2010 to 2016, by providing security at all monthly board meetings. Through his role with the Goldsboro Police Department, Artis has also worked to be active in the community.
He was recently promoted to a liaison position between Goldsboro Police Department and Goldsboro Parks and Recreation.
In addition to serving as a Board member for the Wayne Uplift Resource Association from 2004 through 2015, he has spent the past seven years serving as a board member for the North Carolina Association of School Resource Officers.
"Officer Artis, on behalf of the Board, we would like to congratulate you on your recent promotion," stated board chair Patricia Burden during the recognition. "We would also like to thank you for all that you did for Wayne County Public Schools, this Board of Education, and most importantly Goldsboro High as a school resource officer to support the students and staff at that school each and every day you were there."
