A wreck on U.S. 13 North between this tractor trailer and another vehicle proved fatal Monday evening.
A Raleigh man died shortly before 9 p.m. Monday after he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a tractor trailer on U.S. 13 near Hill Loop Road and West Hill Street, north Goldsboro.
The N.C. State Highway Patrol said that Howard Leon Exum of Raleigh died after being ejected from his vehicle.
Exum was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the wreck, troopers said.
Troopers said it appeared the vehicle swerved off the road to the right while traveling north.
Exum apparently overcorrected and came back onto the road at a 45-degree angle, where it struck the oncoming tractor trailer, owned by R.D. Boone Trucking, out of Farmville.
Exum was pronounced dead at scene by Wayne County EMS.
The driver of the truck, Robert Daniel Boone, 40, of Farmville was not injured.
Exum's black Jeep overturned beside the northbound lane.
The right side of the car was completely destroyed, and the front of the truck had extensive damage, troopers said.
Both were declared total losses.
U.S. 13 was blocked for about an hour and a half to two hours.
The truck was hauling grain.
There is no indication that speed or alcohol were factors in the wreck, troopers said.
