A wreck on U.S. 13 North between this tractor trailer and another vehicle proved fatal this evening. Additional details are being gathered at this time.
An unidentified man is dead after his car collided with a tractor trailer on U.S. 13 near Hill Loop Road and West Hill Street Monday night.
Just before 9 p.m., troopers with the N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to the wreck down the road from Lowrider's Tire Sales. They found a black SUV overturned beside the northbound lane, with the driver ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sgt. J.K. Whitley said that the it appeared the vehicle swerved off the road to the right while traveling north, then overcorrected and came back on to the road at a 45-degree angle, where it struck the oncoming tractor trailer, owned by R.D. Boone Trucking, out of Farmville. The driver of the tractor trailer was not harmed, Whitley said.
The driver of the SUV was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck, Whitley said, contributing to his ejection from the vehicle.
The right side of the car was completely destroyed. The name of the deceased man is being withheld until family members are contacted.
