A Goldsboro man was injured Saturday afternoon when his motorcycle slammed into the back of a Dodge Silverado truck on U.S. 117 North near the Belfast community.

Justin Bernard Jenkins, 32, of 102 Country Run Lane, sustained minor injuries, said N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper J.S. Smith. Jenkins was taken to the hospital by a WayneNet ambulance shortly after the accident, which occurred just before noon.

"Traffic stopped for a vehicle to make a left-hand turn," Smith said. "He ran into the back of a pickup truck."

Jenkins will likely be charged with failure to reduce speed, Smith said.

The accident, which occurred close to 3499 U.S. 117 North near Hill Street, involved several vehicles and led to a partial closing of the highway, until 12:45 p.m.

Several witnesses saw the incident, including Darrell Walker, who was mowing his front lawn just before the he heard the wreck.

A beige Nissan Altima was waiting to turn left from U.S. 117 into a residential driveway. A black Ford Focus and a Chevrolet Silverado were waiting for the car to turn when Jenkins' Suzuki motorcycle slammed into the back of the truck before turning over onto the highway, Walker said.

Witnesses checked Jenkins who remained on the ground until emergency responders arrived.

"The cars were stopped, and he ran into them," Walker said. "He was trying to stop. The man hit the car. It sounded rough. He laid still for a while. I think he was out."

Two Highway Patrol officers and the Belfast Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.
