The Wayne County Sheriff's Office arrested a second suspect Monday in its investigation into a double shooting in Dudley that left one man dead Jan. 9.
Three suspects remain at large, but investigators say they have "strong leads" as to the identities of those involved.
Montrel Allen, 41, 104 Jessica Place, turned himself in to investigators at the sheriff's annex at 1 p.m., lead investigator Det. Sgt. Larry Mitchell said.
"He is charged with one count of first-degree burglary and two counts of attempted armed robbery," he said.
Allen is currently being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $300,000 secured bond.
The charges stem from a shooting at 159 Sleepy Creek Road in Dudley that took place 10 days ago. Two men were shot inside their home -- Carlos Cesar Vasquez Luna, 47, died at the scene --and Alfred Garcias, 25, was transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville with life-threatening injuries. Garcias is still recovering.
Detectives canvassed the entire neighborhood the night of the shooting, knocking on doors and stepping in to neighbor's homes to find out if any of them had seen or heard anything.
Within days, investigators had a woman in custody and had publicly identified Allen.
Jennele Lea Howard Wall, 35, arrested Jan. 13, is charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, attempted armed robbery and first-degree burglary. She is being held without bond in the Wayne County Jail.
Investigators were hesitant to say why Wall is charged with murder and Allen is not, except to say that further charges against the man are pending. There has been no word either on what charges the three remaining suspects might be facing once caught.
"We are looking (for) three more. We have leads on who they are," Capt. Richard Lewis said.
It is clear the shooting resulted from a planned robbery, but who played what role and what triggered the shooting are still under investigation.
"We don't want to release any more than that at this time," Lewis said.
