Ten earn Nurse Excellence award

Ten representatives were awarded Nurse Excellence Awards for 2015. Ten representatives from nursing areas at Wayne Memorial Hospital were recently named recipients of Nurse Excellence awards.
The annual recognition honors employees nominated by supervisors, co-workers and peers.
Independent judges scored the candidates on such qualities as integrity, honesty, accountability, character, enthusiasm, caring, compassion and competency
Wayne Memorial President and CEO Bill Paugh and Dr. Shirley Harkey, vice president of patient services and chief nursing officer, presented this year's awards.
The 2015 Nurse Excellence recipients included nine registered nurses and one nurse assistant.
Those named to the distinction included the following:
*Tasha Bollin, RN, ICU, who has worked at Wayne Memorial Hospital for 10 years. She is a graduate of Wayne Community College and Winston-Salem State University.
*Julie Carlone, RN, a nurse for six years, came to Wayne Memorial in 2014 and works with patients on the hospital's second floor. She graduated from Ocean County College.
*Linda Coston, RN, is an employee health nurse. She graduated from Wayne Community College and has been a nurse for 24 years, 22 of those at Wayne Memorial.
*Keyrstan Ferguson, unit secretary and nurse assistant, works in the intensive care unit. A graduate of Roanoke Chowan Community College, she has been with Wayne Memorial for one year.
*Debra Joyner, RN, is a school health nurse. She is a graduate of Liberty University and has been a nurse for 31 years, 17 of those at Wayne Memorial.
*Danielle Lane, RN, is a second floor nurse. A graduate of Lenoir Community College and Winston Salem State University, she has been at Wayne Memorial for three years.
*Cody Lathan, RN, a nurse in the emergency department, has been in the profession for five years, three at Wayne Memorial. He graduated from Nash Community College.
*Chastity Lynch, RN, has worked at Wayne Memorial Hospital for 18 years. A graduate of Wayne Community College, she works in the ICU.
*Ashley Pate, RN, works in the post anesthesia care unit. She graduated from Sampson Community College and has spent all nine years as a nurse at Wayne Memorial.
*Wendy Stroud, RN, works in the hospital nursery. She graduated from Pitt Community College and has spent 22 of her 27 years in the profession at Wayne Memorial.
Each of the winners received an acrylic, flame-shaped award symbolizing Florence Nightingale, perhaps best known for carrying an oil lamp at night as she made her rounds tending to wounded soldiers during the Crimean War.
