Joe Daughtery files for re-election

Wayne County Commissioner Joe Daughtery was the only local candidate to file on Thursday.

Daughtery, a Republican, is seeking a second term as the District 6 commissioner.

All seven seats on the board are up for election in 2016.

Daughtery makes the six incumbent to file.

District 5 Commissioner Bill Pate, a Republican, had not filed as of Thursday, but has announced he will seek a second term.

Five commissioners filed on Tuesday, the opening day of the filing period.

They are Republican incumbents Wayne Aycock of Pikeville, at-large; Ray Mayo of Pikeville, District 1; and Joe Gurley of Goldsboro, District 4; and Democratic incumbents Ed Cromartie of Mount Olive, District 2, and John Bell of Goldsboro, District 3.

Candidates for local office file at the Wayne County Board of Elections, 209 S. William St.

Legislative candidates file in their home counties while candidates for district, statewide and/or national offices file at the state Board of Elections office in Raleigh.

The filing period for the March primary and November general election began Tuesday at noon and will end at noon on Monday, Dec. 21.
