Wayne Memorial Hospital won more top awards than any small community hospital at the annual Fall Conference of the Carolinas Healthcare Public Relations & Marketing Society in Asheville on Nov. 19.
Known as The Wallies and Golden Tusks, these awards are presented annually to recognize excellence in healthcare public relations and marketing. Members from North Carolina and South Carolina compete in more than a dozen categories, and winners are chosen by a panel of marketing communications professionals.
Georgia Dees, director of public relations, and Brittani Schultze-Gardner, graphic designer, accepted the awards on behalf of the hospital.
In the Special Events category, Wayne Memorial Hospital won top honors for "Cancer Doesn't Discriminate," an event the hospital hosted during October 2014 that focused on breast and prostate cancer and featured many hospital physicians and departments representing cancer education, prevention and care.
In the Employer Relations and Managed Care category, the hospital won for its "Healthy Nutrition - Go, Slow, Whoa" campaign which promoted the hospital's expanded focus on healthy dining options being offered to employees by the hospital's Food and Nutrition Services Department and Culture of Wellness committee.
In the Issue Management category, Wayne Memorial Hospital won for its "Physical Activity in the Workplace" initiative, another outcome of the Culture of Wellness committee, which promotes and offers exercise opportunities for hospital employees.
Wayne Memorial Hospital also won the Gold Award in the category "Interactive Mobile Website," for its recently redesigned hospital website, which can be found at www.waynehealth.org.
The hospital won two Silver Awards, one in the Annual Report category for its 2014 Quality Report, and one in the Newspaper Ad/Single Color category, for its 2014 Nurses Week Ad.
