The Goldsboro Police Department now has in custody one of the suspects believed to be responsible for a series of break-ins at the Sterling Pointe Apartments in Goldsboro that occurred between Oct. 23 and Nov. 13.
Calvin Jovan Coley, 20, whose last known address is listed as 426 Piedmont Airline Road, is charged with five counts each of felony breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and possession of stolen goods. He is also charged with a single count each of obtaining property by false pretense, safecracking by removing a safe and safecracking.
He is being held in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $30,000 secured bond.
Sgt. Jeremy Sutton said additional arrests are pending and other, potentially-related break-ins continue to be investigated.
"Yes, there were others in that same neighborhood and in the area around that neighborhood," Sutton said.
According to a press release issued late Tuesday, the first two break-ins took place Oct. 23 at 191 Piedmont Airline Road, apartments 301 and 304. Initial reports said unknown suspects kicked in the doors of each apartment and removed items. Similar reports were filed at apartments 901 and 902 on Nov. 10, and yet another similar incident took place at apartment 904 on Nov. 13. The second and third incidents involved the breaking out of a kitchen window and the prying open of back doors, respectively.
In each case, items were removed from the residence. In the last instance, a safe was removed which was later found opened and emptied in a wooded area near the rear of the residence, according to the press release.
Goldsboro investigators developed Coley as a suspect and secured warrants for his arrest in connection with the Sterling Pointe break-ins. Coley, already in jail on other charges, was served and given his new bond.
According to the press release, the investigation is ongoing. Further charges are expected.
