Convenience store clerk robbed at gunpoint

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery at the Friendly Mart located at 1464 N.C. 111 South that took place Saturday at approximately 8:30 p.m., according to a sheriff's report.
The suspect fired a shot inside the store and struck the clerk in the side of the head with the butt of the gun, according to the report.
The suspect, wearing a red hat, a tan scarf and a dark jacket, followed the clerk around the counter and emptied the cash register. The suspect made off with about $300 in cash and three packs of Newport cigarettes. He then headed south on Spring Bank Road.
The suspect is described as a black man approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall weighing about 235 pounds and of a large build. He also wore gray sweat pants and dark shoes and carried a silver revolver, the report said.
