The Goldsboro Police Department arrested and charged the man they say is responsible for a shooting in the area of Slaughter Street and Newsome Street Aug. 2.
Tyrann Morrocco Artis, 40, 1104 Porter St., is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was placed in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.
The shooting took place at 5:30 a.m.
According to a press release, Goldsboro police were called to the intersection of Slaughter and Newsome streets where they found William Caldwell, sitting on the corner with a gunshot wound to the leg.
Caldwell was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment and was later released.
Throughout the course of the ensuing investigation, police developed Artis as a suspect. Artis was located and arrested Thursday by deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office warrant squad on other charges. He was then charged by the Goldsboro Police Department in connection with the shooting.
He is scheduled to appear in Wayne County District Court this morning.
