Man shot, killed

Officers and investigators with the Goldsboro Police Department search the yard of a home on National Drive where a man was shot and killed Monday afternoon. Police are looking for several suspects.
A shooting in the 700 block of National Drive left one man dead Monday and forced officials to place a nearby school on lockdown for 45 minutes.
Investigators are working the case today as a robbery gone wrong.
Bryan O'Neil Moore, 28, died from a single gunshot wound and was found lying behind his home at 700 National Drive, according to a press release.
First responders were dispatched at 1:27 p.m. to reports of a shooting at 703 National Drive. Goldsboro police and fire personnel responded along with Wayne County EMS. Once they arrived, paramedics pronounced Moore dead.
"We can't release much right now. All I can tell you is we are looking at it as a robbery," Chief Mike West said at the scene.
West mentioned there could be as many as three or more suspects, and Maj. Anthony Carmon, head of investigations, said nothing is concrete yet.
"There could be one, two, or three. We don't know at this point. I know it was at least one person because somebody pulled the trigger," Carmon said.
Investigators and crime scene technicians scoured the scene amid steady rainfall, looking for -- and marking -- evidence. At least one witness was inside the residence at the time of the shooting, Carmon said.
A few hundred yards away, at Eastern Wayne Middle School, a lockdown was initiated once school officials were informed that a shooting had taken place so close to campus.
"We were on a lockdown after reports of a shooting behind the school," Wayne County Public Schools communications director Ken Derksen said. "It lasted about 30 to 45 minutes."
Derksen said the lockdown was lifted after police confirmed the danger was over. Students were released at the normal time of 2:45 p.m.
"It did not impact dismissal for that school," Derksen said.
Meanwhile, on National Drive, detectives went door to door asking neighbors if they had seen or heard anything.
One resident who asked not to be identified said she did not know if one or more people lived at the residence. It was hard to tell sometimes, she said, because there were "so many in and out of there."
Carmon said there is going to have to be some measure of community assistance if this case is to be solved.
"They didn't need to necessarily be inside the house. If they saw anything going on around the outside of the house, if they saw a car fleeing or people running away, they need to call us," he said.
