A Goldsboro man is being held in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $5 million secured bond today after police charged him with the first-degree rape of a 5-year-old girl.
Lamar T. McNeese, 21, of 700 N. Spence Ave. Apt. M4, is charged with first-degree rape and two counts of first-degree sexual offense of a child.
The arrest was made Monday, five days after police were called to the victim's residence by her mother at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 28.
Once on the scene, police were told a known subject had raped and sexually assaulted her daughter.
The investigation revealed that subject to be McNeese, according to a press release.
Maj. Anthony Carmon, head of the Goldsboro Police Department Criminal Investigation Division, said the nature of the relationship between McNeese and his alleged victim would not be released.
He also said the police do not know exactly when the incident took place.
"We don't have a specific date of offense," he said.
Carmon said the child is doing well today, despite the traumatic nature of the crime.
"She was never put in the hospital or anything like that," he said.
McNeese is scheduled to appear in Wayne County District Court this afternoon.
