Rain won't stop tonight's ribbon-cutting ceremony that marks the completion of the city's Streetscape project. Downtown Goldsboro Development Corp. Director Julie Metz said this morning that tonight's festivities will proceed as scheduled.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will run from 4 to 6 p.m. to mark the recent completion of the Center Street Streetscape project, and see attendees cut 1,200 feet of ribbon down Center Street to celebrate the event.
Festivities will begin on Center Street from Mulberry Street to Chestnut Street at 4 p.m., with Majesty Rose and her band providing the night's entertainment to kick off the ceremony. Official comments will be made at 4:30 p.m. by Ms. Metz, City Manager Scott Stevens, Division 4 Federal Transit Administrator Yvette Taylor and Ray Rogers, district director of U.S. Rep. G.K. Butterfield's office. Following the comments, the ribbon will be cut and Mayor Al King will serve as grand marshal of the event, which will include an impromptu parade.
Attendees will receive a "Do It Downtown" gift bag. Entertainment and activities will be held until 8 p.m., with many restaurants and businesses open late for visitors.
The first phase of the project began in 2011, and the second, most recent phase began in August 2014. With the project's completion comes the construction of three roundabouts, several public art displays, a 12-foot granite water fountain, bike lanes, extra wide sidewalks, underground utilities, WiFi, music, game tables and more green space.
