Three people shot early this morning in two separate incidents are recovering from what police are calling non-life threatening injuries. None of the victims, however, have been able to identify who shot them.
The shootings occurred within five minutes of one another, but in two separate locations, according to police reports.
At 1:15 a.m., police were dispatched to reports of shots fired in the area of Waters Circle near Central Heights Road. While on the way, a patrol officer noticed a white Cadillac leaving the area with no lights on and attempted to execute a traffic stop. The driver did not stop until he reached the emergency room at Wayne Memorial Hospital where he jumped out of the car and screamed that his uncle was in the back seat and had been shot in the neck.
The uncle, Reginal Devon Williams, 49, of West New Hope Road, was carried inside and treated for his injuries.
"There are no suspects at this time," Maj. Anthony Carmon said.
Five minutes after the call to the Central Heights area, a second report of shots fired came in, this time at the Grand at Day Point, otherwise known as Day Circle.
Upon arrival, police found two victims had been shot.
Alvin McLaughlin III, 32, of Vanderbuilt Circle, was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the breezeway of the 1800 building.
Dashawn Smith, 35, of Olivia Lane, was found inside 1202 Day Circle also suffering from a gunshot wound. A third victim, Lance James, 35, of Faison, is also identified on the report as having been in the residence when the shots were fired. An estimated $150 in property damage was reported following the shooting at 1202 Day Circle.
"At this point they are not identifying the shooter," Carmon said.
Anyone with information regarding either of the two shootings is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 919-735-2255 or text tips to 919-222-4230. Callers can remain anonymous and tips leading to a felony arrest are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
