A Goldsboro woman died Monday after running a stop sign on N.C. Highway 55 at Kelly Springs Road, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
The wreck happened east of Mount Olive at approximately 1:56 p.m., First Sgt. Jerry Burton said.
According to the wreck report, Jessica Lands, 30, of Goldsboro, was driving south on Kelly Springs Road and ran a stop sign. Ms. Lands, driving a 2015 Hyundai passenger car, then ran into the back of tractor trailer loaded with sweet potatoes.
She was not wearing her seat belt, Burton said.
"She was ejected from the car and landed in the roadway," he said.
Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected in the wreck.
The driver of the tractor trailer, William Parker, 36, of Warsaw, was not injured. He did, however, lose control and the trailer overturned.
"He spilled his load, forcing the road to be shut down or some time," Burton said.
N.C. 55 remained closed for several hours, but has since reopened, Burton said
No charges are expected to be filed.
