Two people were shot in the city over the weekend.
One victim sustained injuries after being shot just before 4 a.m. Saturday while sitting in a car in the 900 block of Fairview Court.
Kimberly Best, 24, was asleep in the passenger's seat of a silver, four-door, 2009 Nissan Altima when a single gunshot penetrated the passenger's side door and a single bullet struck Ms. Best and lodged itself in her upper right thigh.
Ms. Best told police she did not see anything prior to being shot since she was asleep when the incident occurred.
Maj. Anthony Carmon, head of investigations for the Goldsboro Police Department, said no shell casings or any other form of physical evidence was found at the scene of the crime, and that police aren't sure what type of gun was used.
Carmon said there was no indication that Ms. Best was targeted, and that the shooting appeared to be random.
Ms. Best was transported to the Wayne Memorial Hospital Emergency Department in a private vehicle after being shot.
There are currently no suspects in the case.
In a separate incident, a single bullet was shot from a handgun by an unknown suspect into a private residence just before 1 a.m. Saturday.
No injuries were reported by the residents of 807 Best St., but an estimated $420 worth of property damage was incurred.
According to a Goldsboro Police Department report, the bullet caused a hole in an awning covering the rear door to the house, shattered the window on the rear storm door, put a hole in the window pane of the rear interior door and then blasted through an interior wall before coming to rest on carpeting inside the house just beyond the damaged property.
The bullet entered through the top of an awning outside the residence.
The victim of the shooting, Brenda Lewis, told police she was sitting inside her house when she heard the rear window shatter. She discovered the damage after going to check on the noise.
Maj. Anthony Carmon, head of investigations for the Goldsboro Police Department, said there was no evidence to indicate Mrs. Lewis was being targeted when the shooting occurred, and that it appeared to be a random act of violence.
There are currently no suspects in the shooting.
