Pikeville names new police chief

PIKEVILLE -- The town of Pikeville has a new police chief.
The Pikeville Town Board agreed this week to hire Joseph Sadler, a former state Highway Patrol trooper and currently a Wayne County Sheriff's deputy, for the job.
Sadler, 52, replaces Paschal Tucker, who retired in February after five years in the position.
Sadler is now working as a bailiff at the Wayne County Courthouse. He lives in Pikeville.
He retired as a sergeant with the state Highway Patrol in 2012 after working as a trooper for 25 years.
His starting pay will be $38, 025, according to Town Administrator Blake Proctor.
Sadler was one of three applicants interviewed by the town board for the position. Following a closed session Monday night, board members emerged and approved Sadler as their choice.
The town has two other full-time police officers and four part-time officers, Proctor said.
Sadler began his law enforcement career as police officer in Jacksonville. He and his wife, Margaret, have three children.
