Speed and alcohol were both factors in an one-vehicle wreck that injured three men inside the car that Highway Patrol troopers said was destroyed in the wreck.
The two of the injured were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the car. A passenger in the back seat suffered only minor injuries.
The wreck happened shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday on Rosewood Road near Valley Drive leaving a section of Rosewood Road closed for about two hours.
The patrol said that the 2007 Mitsubishi Galant being driven by Cody Joshua Collins, 20, of 2612 Valley Haven Drive, Raleigh was traveling at an estimated 85 mph when it ran off the right side of the road in a curve.
The car knocked down a stop sign before clipping a utility pole nearly 10 feet off the ground. The vehicle flipped several times before coming to rest on the driver's side in the highway.
Collins and a passenger in the front seat, Christopher Allen Stocks, 21, of 107 Zeno Lane were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the car. Both were taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A passenger in the back seat, Keith Allen Jenkins, 20, 127 Cambridge Drive, suffered minor injuries.
Collins has been charged with driving while impaired, provisional driving while impaired (under the age of 21), reckless driving, and seatbelt violation.
