All-County Band Festival

Guest conductors have been working with middle and high school bands this week, in anticipation of the 2013 All-County Band Festival at Goldsboro High School on Thursday at 7 p.m.
District officials said 120 students from 15 schools around the county are participating in this year's event, which is free and open to the public.
The concert provides an opportunity to showcase the band members' talents as well as be directed by accomplished professional musicians.
Two guest conductors were brought in and students were selected to be part of the ensemble.
The middle school band is being directed by Marty Spitzer, director of marching and athletic bands at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. The high school director is Clifton Scott, band director at Southeast Raleigh High School.
Band directors across the district also assisted in the weeks leading up to the annual event. These include Jerome Powers of Brogden Middle; Daryl Richardson of Dillard Middle and Goldsboro High; Samantha Heath of Eastern Wayne Middle; Jonathan Jones of Grantham Middle; Jennifer Kirkland of Greenwood Middle; Cindy Grant of Mount Olive Middle and Southern Wayne High; Kimberley Benson of Norwayne Middle; Melissa Riser of Rosewood Middle and Rosewood High; Paul Ingram of Spring Creek Middle; Michael Palmer of Charles B. Aycock High; Tyrone Wagner of Eastern Wayne High; and Andrew Maldon of Spring Creek High.
Musical selections include on this year's program include "Invincible," Pirates of the Barbary Coast," "Danny the Brave," "Mighty Mite March," "Overcome" and "To Forge the New Frontier."
Rick Pridgen, school board member, will serve as master of ceremonies at the event.
